Rashtrasant Shri Tukdoji Maharaj
30 April,1909 - 11 October,1968

Rastrasant Shri Tukdoji Maharaj was born on 30th April 1909 in Yawli Shaheed Amravati District. His full name is Manikdevji Bandoji Thakur (Bramhbhatt). Aadkuji maharaj from Varkhed village was the spiritual guru of Rastrasant Tukdoji Maharaj His Spiritual exercise made him a Self Realize saint. He was Spiritual Orator and musician who had writed and composed more than 3000 bhajans in hindi and Marathi. Most of the time in his intial stage had spend in salburdi,Ramtek,Ramdighiand in the dense forest of Gondodake.His prime moto was socio-spirituality to awken the people to fight against the independence of india. He established the All India Shri Gurudev Seva Mandal’ which provides and developed many programmes for the rural development. He wrote “Gramgeeta” which describes the inspiration for village development. His service towards the nation make better mankind and way of living better life.

His contribution for the nation and rural upliftment gives him honour as “Rastrasant” and with his honour Nagpur University is renamed as "Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University" also the title of Rastrasant was given by at that time President of india Dr Rajendra Prasad as he was impressed by his Intense love towards Liberal india. He was a writer of books Sartha Anandamrut, Sartha Atmaprabhav, Geeta Prasad, Bodhamrut, Laharki Barkha Part 1, 2 & 3, Anubhav Prakash Part 1, 2 and 3.

Tukdoji Maharaj had taken the active participation in “Quit india movement” and also performed the individual “Satyagrah” in 1941. He also contributed in Bhoodan Movment of Acharya Vinobha Bhave. In 1955, he was attended the world conference of religion and world peace in Japan and after that he wrote a book of Meri Japan Yatra. He was arrested in 1942 and was imprisoned in Nagpur and Raipur Central Jails for his strong oppose for the inhuman repressive measure carried out by British Rulers. He was the one of the founder vice president of “Vishwa Hindu Parishad”.
